Comparison of conventional radiography and computed tomography in patients admitted to the emergency department with extremity trauma — a retrospective study

INTRODUCTION: This study aims to compare conventional radiography (X-ray) and computed tomography (CT) on diagnosis, operation plan, hospitalization of patients with isolated extremity trauma admitted the emergency department (ED). MATERIAL AND METHODS: was designed retrospectively. Patients involving extremities presenting a tertiary ED between January 2019 2020 for twelve months who underwent both CT X-ray imaging were included in study. The sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV, Kappa coefficients calculated reports. RESULTS: A total 1306 Extremity fractures detected 620 (47.6%) 775 (59.3%) evaluated X-ray, scans respectively. diagnostic accuracy all by anatomical region evaluated. For shoulder compared CT, had sensitivity 95%, specificity 98%, PPV NPV 96% [AUC: 0.969, 95% CI 0.935 1.000) diagnosing proximal humeral fractures. elbow joint 88%, 99% supracondylar fracture (AUC: 0.973, 0.924–1.000). 94%, 100%, at wrist region, 98% distal ulnar 0.974, 0.941 1.000). most common knee tibia X-ray.
